5 Stars Excellent Nagra SD review by the Wildlife Sound Recording Society
by Stith Recording on Apr 23, 2012
Here is an excellent review of the Nagra SD recorder provided by the Wildlife Sound Recording Society.

http://www.wildlife-sound.org/equipment/recorders/nagra-sd/index.html

Their conclusion: This is a lovely little recorder/mic pairing for sound recordists who do not require P48 power or balanced inputs, the Nagra has a good noise performance and operational convenience. The detachable mic makes this more versatile than the more usual fixed internal mic configuration. Wind protection is always an issue with integral mics, and some sort of Rycote furry windshield would help, as otherwise successful performance seems limited to light breezes of less than about 5mph. You really have to use this recorder with the Nagra green band mic to get the full advantage of this as an all-in-one handy recorder.

5 Stars An update - wow!
by Donelda Warhurst on Apr 9, 2012
Thought I would give an update. The recorder is wonderful. I have it in the field every day and keep refining my use of it. Blinking light vs. steady light etc. :) I am a slow learn. I solved the problem of the handle cord on the parabola. Since I got a shorter cord (which I like better) with the Nagra and I had some other cords that fit the dish I cut the cord off the handle!! I know it sounds drastic but it is wonderful. I do not have that long cord hitting the dish and wrapping around me. Nice. I also made a wind sleeve for the dish. I know people recommend leaving it clear so you can see the direction the mic is pointing. However the handling noise is more irritating to me than moving the dish a bit to find the "sweet" spot. I fixed a strap for the Nagra so it goes across my chest and the parabola is on a strap that goes over my shoulder. It is easy to use. My only complaint is the display is small compared to the Tascam. I have old eyes and would like to see it easier. Also in the sun it is impossible to see. I have to swing around to shade the display. On the other hand the blinking lights to let you know if you are on prerecord or pause and the steady light for record is easy to see. Anyway it is just under 4 pounds for the whole set up. Wow.

5 Stars It is wonderful!
by Donelda Warhurst on Apr 3, 2012
I got my Nagra SD recorder one hour ago and have already tested it out and loaded the sounds on the computer in Raven etc, It is wonderful. Very easy to set up and use. SSSSSo lightweight. I have put the parabola on with the cord that came with it. I just have to figure out how to bypass the cord that is on the handle of the parabola. My headphones for my iphone work on it. I recorded Bushtits with the small Nagra SD stereo clip-on mic and was very impressed with what I got. A distant California Towhee chink was acceptable also. Wow. I look forward to many happy hours of use with less batteries used. I also am so happy that it loaded on the Mac with absolutely no problems. No extra steps to go through. Just plug the recorder in, open Raven and drag and drop the sounds into Raven. Nice. The manual came on a flash drive which was nice.
